NURS 2003 - Health Assess Rn To Bsn - 3 hrs.
This course emphasizes the theoretical concepts of holistic health and the role that physical assessment plays in evaluation of those concepts for the professional nurse. In addition, physical assessment is stressed as one data gathering technique within the Nursing Process. The human being is viewed from a total person approach. NURS 3011 - Nursing Synthesis 1 - 1 hrs.
This introductory synthesis course will focus on building overall critical thinking and test taking skills to minimize test anxiety and develop effective study habits to enhance student success. NURS 3015 - Adult Health Nursing I: Lpn To Bsn - 6 hrs.
This is a combined theory/clinical course for licensed practical nurses (LPN) that focuses on safe patient-centered care for adults with acute and chronic diseases. This course is designed to integrate concepts related to commonly occurring health issues in individuals and their designees. The course will allow the student to provide care to one or two adult patients in a variety of settings. Prerequisites: NURS 2002, NURS 2004, NURS 2011, NURS 2013, NURS 2080, NURS 2009. Credit or registration in NURS 3016, NURS 3010, NURS 3011, current Practical Nurse Licensure in Louisiana and one year of acute or long-term care experience.
NURS 3016 - Adult Health Nursing I Practicum: Lpn To Bsn - 2 hrs.
Graduates from state-approved licensed practical nursing (LPN) programs, who are currently licensed to practice, and have practiced in Louisiana, will be granted two (2) credits in medical-surgical hours in recognition of their license and experience. This experience should focus on safe, patient-centered care for adults with acute and chronic diseases in a variety of settings. Credit for NURS 3016 will be awarded upon successful completion of NURS 3015. Prerequisites: NURS 2002, NURS 2004, NURS 2011, NUS 2013, NURS 2080, NURS 2009. Credit or registration in NURS 3015, NURS 3010, NURS 3011, current Practical Nurse Licensure in Louisiana and one year of acute or long-term care experience.
NURS 3028 - Adult Health Nursing 2 - 6 hrs.
This course focuses on safe patient centered care for adults with complex acute and chronic diseases. Designed to integrate concepts related to commonly occurring health issues in individuals and their designees, the course builds on previous nursing course work. The student will provide care for two to three adult patients in a variety of settings. Prerequisites: NURS 3010, NURS 3011, and NURS 3009 or NURS 3015 and NURS 3016. Registration or credit in: NURS 3029 and NURS 3030.
NURS 3029 - Maternal Child Health Nursing - 6 hrs.
This course presents theoretical and clinical concepts relative to the health and illness needs of families during pregnancy, childbirth, and childhood in a variety of settings. The impact of culture on the family unit, knowledge of human growth and development, safe patient-centered care, and the utilization of the nursing process are used to make evidenced-based clinical decisions and improve quality of health care. Holistic and individualized interventions incorporating informatics are utilized and evaluated to deliver optimal health care. Clinical experiences are selected to emphasize professionalism, clinical judgment, teamwork and collaboration, and clinical management skills. Prerequisites: NURS 3010, NURS 3011, and NURS 3009 or NURS 3015 and NURS 3016. Registration or credit in: NURS 3028 and NURS 3030.
NURS 3030 - Nursing Synthesis 2 - 1 hrs.
This course will focus on creation of student structured study plans based on self-analysis of previous testing performances to enhance student success. Prerequisites: NURS 3010, NURS 3011, and NURS 3009 or NURS 3015 and NURS 3016. Registration or credit in: NURS 3028 and NURS 3029.
NURS 4000 - Adult Health Nursing 3 - 8 hrs.
Incorporating concepts from all previous nursing course work, this course focuses on critically ill and emergent needs of the individual. The student will provide care for two to four patients in a variety of acute care settings. Prerequisites: NURS 3028, NURS 3029, and NURS 3030. Credit or registration in NURS 4001 and NURS 4002.
NURS 4001 - Nursing Research: Evidence Based Practice - 3 hrs.
This course introduces the student to the basic concepts of evidence-based practice as it is used to enhance the delivery of quality, safe patient centered care. Students will learn the basic skills needed to help them read and understand nursing research, critically appraise research evidence and use evidence to develop an evidence-based nursing practice. NURS 4026 - Special Problems In Nursing: Research (formerly Nurs 438a) - 1 to 3 hrs.
May be repeated for up to 6 hours of credit.
1-3 credits; maximum, 6 credits. Investigative study of special problems by students with particular needs in nursing education, practice, and administration. Prerequisite: Approval of the Director, School of Nursing. (Formerly NURS 438A)
NURS 4066 - Nursing Management - 6 hrs.
This is a combined theory/clinical course that incorporate concepts from all previous nursing course work. This course focuses on utilizing management principles and skills in providing care to individuals. The student will provide care for two to four patients in a variety of acute care settings to facilitate the transition from the role of nursing student to the role of nursing professional.
