Health Practicum I - 1 hrs.
This is a professional development course, as well as preparation for Health Science Practicum II. Students select an agency and develop personal goals and objectives appropriate to the setting, population, and health issues. Under supervision in an approved agency, students have the opportunity for on-the-job experiences. Students have the opportunity to "shadow" individuals who are performing their jobs on a daily basis. The organization can involve the student in productive activities, which benefit the agency and enhance the student's learning experience. The practicum is generally performed in the student's junior year.
Prerequisite(s): College of Health Sciences majors only, ENGL 3024 or BUSN 3005.

This course is designed to help students prepare for careers in healthcare by enhancing soft skills necessary to be successful healthcare professionals. Students will examine concepts of professionalism such as career planning, communication, personal image and interpersonal skills. In addition, students will learn how to create profession plans that require them to research career options and potential employers, job shadow with industries and design professional resumes. Health Science Practicum - 3 hrs.
This is a practicum performed in the student's senior year. Under supervision in an approved agency, the student will have the opportunity for on-the-job experiences. The practicum is project-based in that the student is expected to produce tangible output for the host organization. It is expected that the student will select a practicum site which is consistent with career intersts and objectives.
Prerequisite(s): senior standing; Health Studies majors only; completion of all 2000 and 3000 HLST courses; completion of 90 credit hours towards Health Studies degree; minimum HLST GPA 2.75 with a 'C' or better in HLST courses, minimum overall GPA 2.0.
