The nature of deafness and hard of hearing problems. Focus is on professional procedures facilitating adequate communication in persons with hearing impairments. Prerequisite(s): SPLP 1013, 1052, 2040, 2002

Priciples of assessment including the instruments, procedures, and report writing skills utilized in diagnosing and reporting speech and language disorders. Prerequisites: SPLP 4001, 4028, 4033

25 clinical clock hours of supervised observation from an ASHA Certified professional ion various settings. Prerequisite(s): SPLP 4028, SPLP 4033

Types, causes, symptoms, and therapy for articulatory defects in speech. Prerequisite: Junior Standing SPLP student or consent of instructor.

Language acquisition, language disorders of reception and expression, and habilitation methodologies in learning. Prerequisite: 1052 or consent of instructor.

Provides students with principles of managing communicatively disordered clients with supervised observation of diagnostic and therapy sessions. Prerequisites: SPLP 4001, 4028, 4033

Clinical practicum with individuals who are communicatively challenged. Students will complete the required clock hours with clients having specific disorders as specified by the instructor. Prerequisite: Approval of department head.

Principles of anatomy and physiology of the normal neurological system as related to language and speech systems. Prerequisite(s): SPLP 2040

A quantitative and qualitative study of research which prepares graduate students majoring in speech-language pathology to critically read, evaluate and generate research in speech-language pathology, including historical, descriptive and experimental processes, statistical and research designs, sampling procedures, collecting and processing research data, and disseminating research.

A study and comparison of contemporary theories of Distinctive Feature Analyses, Phonological Rule Systems, and Traditional Articulation Developments. Emphasis is on the theories as related to articulation remediation.

Intensive study of research related to theories of disfluent speech and current management of stuttering behaviors.

Selected topics and evaluative instruments pertaining to the diagnosis of speech-language pathology.

An advanced study of voice disorders associated with organic laryngeal pathologies, neurologic, disease, and psychogenic disorders including their perceptual/instrumental identification and management.

The study of the neuropathologies and communication disorders associated with neurological impairments such as aphasia, apraxia, closed head injury, dysarthria, right hemisphere impairment, and degenerative diseases.

The study of evaluation and management strategies for neurological disorders such as aphasia, apraxia, closed head injury, dysarthria, right hemisphere impairment, and degenerative diseases. These disorders are introduced in Neurological Disorders I (SPLP 5050). Prerequisite: 5050.

Emphasis is upon research applications and clinical demonstrations of augmentative and alternative strategies and techniques for cerebral and neurological disorders as they affect speech production for speaking and non-speaking individuals.

Emphasis is upon evaluation/diagnosis and management of oropharyngeal dysphagia in pediatric to geriatric populations as well as research and clinical applications for cleft involved persons. (Formerly Seminar in Speech Habilitation for Persons with Cleft Palate.)

Education related to employment in different professional settings including ethics, policies, and procedural safeguards. Prerequisite: Permission of Instructor.

Clinical practicum with individuals with speech-language pathology in on-campus clinic. Students must accumulate the clinical clock hours required by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Practicum for this course must be at a site different from that used for SPLP 5081, 5082, and 5086. Prerequisite: Permission of Instructor and 25 hours of supervised observation, and completion of speech, language, and hearing screening test.

An introduction to audiological knowledge and skills pertinent to speech-language pathology including hearing screening, amplification, assistive listening devices, and assessment and management encompassing all age groups with varying types of degrees of hearing loss.

Students are assigned to work with individuals with communication disorders at approved settings. The student must accumulate the clinical clock hours required by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Practicum for this course must be at a site different from that used for SPLP 5076 and 5086. Prerequisite: 5076 and Permission of Instructor.

Students are placed in approved off-campus settings to work with individuals with communication disorders. The student must accumulate the clinical clock hours required by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Practicum for this course must be at a site different from that used for SPLP 5076 and 5081. Prerequisite; 5076 and Permission of Instructor.

Grades of CR (Credit) or NC (No Credit) will be awarded.
