Biographical Sketch

Janis Weber is an Instructor of Accounting in the College of Business and Social Sciences at the University of Louisiana at Monroe. She is a Certified Public Accountant, and practiced public accounting for more than 20 years in Bastrop, Louisiana, where she provided tax and advisory services to small businesses and individuals, serving a large niche market of physicians. She holds a Doctorate of Business Administration in Accounting from Liberty University, in Lynchburg, Virginia.

During her time in public practice, Janis was extensively involved in community and professional organizations, such as the Chamber of Commerce, community theatre, and her church, as well as various American Institute of CPAs and Louisiana Society of CPAs committees.

In 1995, she served as a Presidential Appointee to the White House Conference on Small Business, which was a week long meeting of delegates from all fifty states, who came together to forge a consensus of opinion regarding issues important to small businesses. The results of that conference were 60 recommendations, which were then presented to Congress, and have since served as a legislative action plan for Congress and the Small Business Administration. The recommendations have been incorporated into untold numbers of congressional bills since that date.

Janis’ research interest relates to strengthening the bridge between academic training and accounting practice. In line with that passion, she is also interested in improving accounting education pedagogy.  Janis states an ambition that students will find her accounting classes engaging and enriching, and that they will be able to apply what they learn to real life.
