Biographical Sketch

Wendel A. Ray, Ph.D., is a Clinical Social Worker, a Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist-Supervisor in the state of Louisiana, and an AAMFT approved supervisor. A Senior Research Fellow and former Director of the Mental Research Institute (MRI) Dr. Ray’s expertise is the application of Communication Theory to understanding human behavior and interaction, and promoting constructive change. Director of the Don D. Jackson Archive and author of more than 100 juried journal articles/book chapters, and ten books translated in numerous languages, Dr. Ray is Hanna Spyker Eminent Scholar and Endowed Chair, and Professor of Family System Theory in the Marriage and Family Therapy and Systemic Studies program(s) at The University of Louisiana at Monroe (ULM).  He leads seminars on system theory and brief therapy across North and Central America, Europe, and Asia.  Founding Director of the Don D. Jackson Archive, his books include: Focused Problem Resolution – Selected Papers of the MRI Brief Therapy Center (Co-edited with Richard Fisch, MD and Karin Schlanger, MFCC); Paul Watzlawick – Insight may cause Blindness & other essays (Co-edited with Giorgio Nardone); Don Jackson – Essays from the Dawn of an Era, selected papers Vol. I; Don Jackson – Interactional Theory in the practice of Therapy, Selected papers Vol. II; Propagations – Thirty Years of Influence from the Mental Research Institute (Co-edited with John Weakland); Evolving Brief Therapies (Co-edited with Steve de Shazer); Irreverence – A Guide to Therapists’ Survival, and The Cybernetics of Prejudices (Co-authored with Gianfranco Cecchin, MD, & Gerry Lane, LCSW); and Resource Focused Therapy (with Bradford P.
