Biographical Sketch

Kathy Kennedy is an Assistant Professor in the College of Health and Pharmaceutical Sciences Kitty DeGree School of Nursing as a tenured faculty in Maternal Child Health and Nursing Synthesis Courses. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Northeast Louisiana University in 1994 and has enjoyed a career in maternal-child nursing. In 2009, she received her Masters of Science in Nursing with a specialty in Certified Nurse Midwifery from Frontier Nursing University in Hyden, Kentucky. In 2016, she received her Doctorate of Nursing Practice degree from Frontier Nursing University in Hyden, Kentucky. 

Dr. Kennedy is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Lambda Mu Chapter, AWHONN, Louisiana Association of Nurse Practitioners, and American College of Nurse Midwives. She is a faculty counselor for the Student Nurses Association and enjoys medical and community service opportunities with students. Dr. Kennedy traveled with a group of faculty and students to La Romana, Dominical Republic in July 2017 to provide medical care to over 1,000 batey workers and family.

Maternal-child health care, preterm birth prevention and education, breastfeeding support and education, safe sleep practices, interprofessional simulation and education
