Biographical Sketch

Thus far, I have four books in print, Conjure in African American Society (2005), Hoodoo, Voodoo, and Conjure: A Handbook (2008), The Voodoo Encyclopedia: Magic, Ritual, and Religion (2015), and Voodoo: An African American Religion (2024).  In addition, I have written many articles and reviews on the subjects of race, religion, and the American South.  I earned my BA in 1997 from Samford University and my PhD in 2002 from the University of Florida.  With my wife and two sons, I have lived in Monroe since 2007.
